Kosovo Agency for Advocacy and Development (KAAD) is a Local Nongovernmental Organization registered in Kosovo and based with its Head Quarters in Prishtine/Prishtina.

KAAD’s operations are overseen by its Board of Directors appointed by the General Assembly. KAAD General Assembly is composed of some 20 members and its Board of Directors currently composed from 4 members, ensures compliance with the local law and KAAD Statute in implementation and overall operation of KAAD.

KAAD is a donor driven Local NGO, the agency’s programmes and projects are corresponding budget approved by the donor. These are managed by the Executive Director, who is selected by the Board of Directors and appointed by KAAD General Assembly.

KAAD’s mandate is defined by its Statute drafted and approved in 2009. In 2010, the General Assembly has approved the amendments to KAAD statute.

As head of the organization, the Executive Director is responsible for the direction and control of KAAD; he directs the work of KAAD and reports to the Board of Directors.

KAAD emerged in late 2008 with the support of UNHCR and Norwegian Church Aid to take over the implementation of Capacity Building, Protection Monitoring funded by UNHCR and Management of Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian Camps of Osterode and Cesmin Lug, funded by Kosovo Ministry for Communities and Returns.

In addition during 2009 and 2010, activities such as closure of the lead-contaminated camps of Cesmin Lug and Osterode Camps funded by European Commission; Vocational trainings, generation of income and provision of job opportunities for RAE population in Roma Mahalla funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Norway; Woman and cultural activities funded by SOROS Foundation.

During 2009 and 2010 KAAD has employed up to a total of 45 staff; currently KAAD employs 22 staff, for its largest Progarmme funded by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

KAAD operates in all five regions in Kosovo and maintains Kosovo wide presence with its regional offices and staff currently employed. It’s Head Quarters in Prishtine/Prishtina supports KAAD field offices by overseeing key areas, such as operations, administration, finances and logistic.

KAAD also supports the Return Support and Coordination Unit (RSCU) based at the Office of the Deputy Prime Ministers Office at Kosovo Government. This Office (namely the RSCU) has started to operate in November 1st, 2008 and has had for its objective the increase of cooperation and coordination between the local and municipal authorities, as well as the empowerment of Municipal Officials for Communities and Return via regular meetings with the local authorities.

Kosovo Agency for Advocacy and Development aims at supporting activities that cover protection monitoring, capacity building of local authorities; including reconciliation and improving inter-ethnic relations, support dialog among different ethnic communities and create a sustainable environment for return process and possible departure including reconstruction/construction houses, creation of welcoming climate for all communities as well as integration and reintegration of people of concern within society include various activities set by MGD Millennium Development Goals for Kosovo such are poverty reduction, no formal education, maternal health, gender equality, sustainable environment, good governance and global partnership.
